Dalit Woman, Son Face Casteist Slurs During Up Panchayat Meeting: Police

Gonda (UP): A Dalit lady and her minor child were purportedly attacked and exposed to casteist slurs by the delegate of the town head and his sidekick in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, a police official said on Wednesday.

The charged were recognized as town head’s agent Santosh Yadav and his buddy Sant Kumar Yadav, the authority said.

The lady and her child were purportedly hassled in full general visibility and kept out of their home in Kallapur Saraiharra town on Sunday, Superintendent of Police Akash Tomar told PTI.

As indicated by police, the lady’s little girl had a court marriage on August 16 with a man from a similar town, who likewise had a place with a similar rank.

The couple got hitched with the assent of their families. Nonetheless, the young lady’s grandma was not content with the marriage and on her drive, a panchayat was called, the SP said.

During the panchayat, Santosh and Sant Kumar openly bothered the lady and her child, he said.

A case under segments of the Indian Penal Code and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was enlisted against the two at Nawabganj police headquarters on Tuesday night, the SP said.

The lady got back to her home after the lock was eliminated, he said, adding the overseer accountable for the area has been coordinated to give security to the casualty’s loved ones.
